author’s note:
After growing up in Arkansas, I left to be urbanized.
Several years later, a move to Hawaii made me realize how much I need what we call “nature”.
But a few years after that, it took an afternoon in a forest near Taos, New Mexico to make me realize...
...that to get what I needed from nature...
...I had to stop.
ACTUAL SIZE
I’m not about
to let you
see this
inflated violin.
The bars of music
a motion picture score
for my own
disempowerment.
But I sat down at
the creek the other day.
Sat down in
a setting so peaceful
I could not help but
be at peace
for a little while
all that overblown
clouded red brown
hubbub
fell away
Monumental emotions
shrank to a single block.
Flowed away from me
on the water
the water
reflecting on the trees
pleasantly aimless
pleasantly anything
and I became
something
better--
I bested myself--
purer
if only
for that brief
sweet
time.
